    More RAM
    « on: September 14, 2008, 09:52:32 AM »
    I have 2 x 1GB sticks at the moment, and have 2 banks free. Can I add 2 x 2GB sticks, or do they have to be either the same as what is installed now or 4 x 2GB? In the old days, RAM had to be installed in pairs, e.g. 2 x 256MB, 2 x 512MB, etc. In case you wonder why I want to add some more, I'm running Vista 64-bit.

    Travel to Crucial.com's site and enter your system specs...or run the online scanner...
    This will tell you exactly what type of RAM and how much can be installed on that board...

      Looks like I'll be better off installing 4 x 2GB sticks. Hmm, best see my bank manager tomorrow  ::)

          This is what I need, according to Crucial's website.

          Code: [Select]

              * Supported DRAM Types:   DDR2 SDRAM only
              * Module Types Supported:   Unbuffered only
              * Error Detection Support:   Non-ECC only
              * Graphics Support:   Dual PCI Express x16, SLI capable
              * Max Component Density:   1024
              * USB Support:   2.x Compliant
              * 240-pin DDR2 DIMM Banking:   4 (2 banks of 2)
              * DDR2 SDRAM Frequencies:   PC2-4200, PC2-5300, and PC2-6400
              * Max Unbuffered DDR2 SDRAM:   8192MB
              * Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

          Number of Slots:

           Slot 1
           Slot 2
           Slot 3
           Slot 4

          Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-8500,DDR2 PC2-4200,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot.*

            He wants 8Gb, therefore, $89 x 2.

            In his initial post he mentions 2 X 2 G sticks....
            Unless he's running Vista Ultimate 64Bit i see no need for 8G personally...
