    Welcome to ComputerHope.

If the CDs and DVDs have CD-RW or DVD-RW, they are rewritable.
If they only have an '-R' at the end, they are only one-time discs.

If they are RWs, pop them into the drive and, in My Computer, click Right Click the CD Drive Icon and click Format.

What burning program are you using ? ?
If just Windows may i suggest CDBurnerXPro...it's FREE and works very well.
There is an option in the Tools Menu for erasing re-writables...

I quit using RW's several years ago, because they just were NOT reliable.
They might work OK on the drive that wrote them, but fail to read on some other drive.
They are also, much more expensive than standard CD-R's .

At the ridiculously LOW price for CD-R disks, I just reach for a new disk every time I need to use one.  No more RW's for this guy!!!

But if you absolutely Must......every decent quality CD/DVD writing program will have an option to reformat a RW disk.

    Good Luck,

It's a great program and you'll find it will do almost everything Nero will do...

I would not store anything important like wedding pictures on a RW disk. I do use them for burning AVIs that I watch on my Mpeg4 capable DVD player, if I know I won't want to watch them again.
