    User account/password (Resolved)
    « on: September 30, 2008, 08:02:14 PM »
Win 2k Pro, pIV, 512 ram.

All was running well but in an attempt to stop being asked for the user password (which is known) the user deleted the user account.  Now on bootup the password is still required but entering anything in the dialog box brings up the message:

The system could not log you in.  Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again....

The displayed User name is what it was before the account was deleted.

The original OS cd and coa are available.  Any cure other than a full re-install?

    Thanks

Oh c'mon, not CH000172, this is NOT a lost or forgotten password, this is an account which has been deleted by the user, the original password is known but seemingly cannot be applied because the account has been deleted.

Is there any way to access the system to reinstate the user account?

Trying to boot to Safe Mode is not possible because the user password must also be entered.

I have various tools available, UBCD, EBCD, Knoppix, Ubunto - will any of them help or should I go straight into a format/reinstall after recovering files?

Wait, if the account is deleted, that means there is no account to enter the username and password for.

Are you looking for a way to retrieve the account? ???

            Just for info...

Two accounts remained, Administrator and Guest, both of which were locked.   Solution was to unlock the Administrator account and blank the password to Administrator then reboot.  When the password was asked for the account name was changed to Administrator and a blank password Enter'd.  The system booted to the Administrator account with full access to all files.

Unticked the box in Control Panel>Users & Passwords requiring users to enter a user name and password, system now boots into the Administrator account without requesting a password.

            Thanks for your interest.
