How do I tell if this is a sound card?
    « on: October 04, 2008, 07:07:27 AM »
Yep just that then today please. How do I tell if this is a sound card?
I tried the numbers on the net but came up MT.

Does the card have to have the three coloured inputs, eg: mic line in etc? This one has only three black jacks with spk line mike and a game and midi plug.
    Numbers on it are N2349   102 94v-0.

The second question is ... If it is a sound card and works, will it work in my TPG that has the sound problem.
That computer is a XP pro sp 3 intel celeron 2.8 ghz 496 meg RAM and has a yellow mark against the Multimedia audio Controller. everything I have tried has not fixed the sound problem with this computer, Ive downloaded the drivers from intel and still no joy. So I want to try a sound card in it.
Any help is welcome thank you.

Can you supply us with an image of the card, please?

Are there any noticeable images above/below the three "black" jacks you're referring to?

This is definitely a sound card...

The jack on the left is for your speakers...the middle is for an auxiliary input...and the one on the right is for your microphone.

Whether or not it will work is based upon the ability of XP having (or you locating) the appropriate drivers for it.

If you're replacing a sound card...why not try to find out what's wrong with your current one first?  It looks like you're having a driver issue with the one that's currently in your system.

Is your original sound card still installed and did it come with your computer?  If so...who's the manufacturer and what is the model number of your computer?

As far as the sound card you have pictured being compatible with your system...it's hard to say.  First...compare the two cards...if they have the same amount of pin connectors and the slot is in the right place...then you should be able to try the card pictured in your system.

Please answer the questions I have posted...and we'll see where this goes.

Oh fudge it wont fit into the slots in the Mobo.
I'll have to massacre another machine with a card in it.
The tags on the bottom are too long for the holder.

Well anyway Id still like to know what sort of card it is, maybe i might need it for one of the the other older computers.
Saviour I had an earlier post on the TPG it is in another forum post together with an Everest summary of the sound problem and the computers details.
That is why Im looking for a sound card that is compatible.
Soon as I find a sound card I'll refer it to that post then.
        Many thanks Saviour.

The sound card depicted there is ISA- even if you COULD install it- it probably wouldn't have XP drivers.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
