Need to delete some *tmp files ,but not sure which ?
« on: October 28, 2008, 11:39:51 AM »
:-\  {Windows 98se 1-4GB hard drive } I read through computerhope ways to save space on hard drives is by deleting tmp & chk files.  I deleted everything but with a microsoft program logo There are 3 files listed as C:Windows/t TMP & 4-files as C:Program files all have from 2mb-337kb's . I do not want to delete any more files here above,if deleting these will harm my PC's Tempory programing operation's or other!  What is the safest  or right way in deleting the right *tmp files or folders ?  THANKS!

IMO do NOT delete any TMP folders.

In theory at least .tmp files are just that - temporary but sometimes they get left behind after a crash or bad shut down etc.

Again - IMO - from a cold boot and no progs running (that might be wanting to use tmp files in operation) ..... you should be able to remove these files entirely with no risk.

Wait for someone else to chime in and add extra opinion.
Ain't technology great - until it goes wrong!
