PLEASE tell me why my computer is SO SLOW!!!

I have a Dell Dimesnion 2400, Windows XP, DSL internet and just added 1G of memory. My internet is extremely slow and it freezes up all the time. In the last 2 days, I've had to literally unplug my computer from the wall to re-start it when it's frozen up. (This is only when I'm online.) I thought by adding more ram I'd solve some of this, but it hasn't made one bit of difference. I've ran all the avast and super antispyware programs, there's never anything there. PLEASE help me figure out what is causing this. It is so annoying. I've called my ISP, and of course they claim it isn't their fault. What could be wrong?

Does performance of your computer seem OK otherwise?  Try a speedtest at http://www.speedtest.net/  What are the results?

If you had to unplug your computer from the wall (which isn't recommended by the way) to restart it...then it's not your internet connection that should be looked at here.

If I were you, I'd post a HijackThis log in the Virus section of the forum and have one of our Malware Specialists look into it for you.

I guess I shouldn't have said I "have" to unplug it to restart it, I just get sick of waiting and waiting. If I walked away from it for a while, it would eventually unfreeze and go back to where I was, but it shouldn't be freezeing up at all. I JUST put that 1G in, and was under the impression that would help??
I don't think it's malware, like I said, I ran all of the anti-virus, malware, spyware programs, and nothing came up. Do I need to do the Hijack one too? Any other ideas? Thanks for the replies, I will try the Hijack just in case, if I still have it on my computer.
