    Dead LCD monitor

HP a1310n tower running Windows XP, using an HP vs17 LCD monitor.  Turned computer off normally last night, but when I tried to use it this morning, the monitor won't turn on.  Doublechecked the surge-protected power strip, power cord and connection to the monitor.  Swapped it out, and the "new" monitor works fine, so it's not the video card or anything to do with the tower.  The only sign of life is the power button turns blue for a few seconds when first pushed, then goes out, but won't light up again if the power button is pushed multiple times.  Is it just a paperweight now, or is there some hope?
      Thanks for ANY input...

Wish I could.  Bought it in 2006, so I'm sure there's no warranty.    :'(

Paperwork shows a 1-yr warranty on the monitor.  Out of luck.
