Virus from torrents?? (Torrent help)

I tried to download this game (the haunting of castle malloy) from[link Removed]

I saved the file, then opened it and downloaded it in zune.
When the file was downloaded, I went to the folder zune created for it and clicked on a file that was named with the title of the game. There were only 3 files in the folder, one was a notepad document and another was an internet shortcut.

When I click on this file (the startgameish file), the computer starts working really hard and often freezes, but the game never starts up. I don't know of anything else I would need to do in order to get the game to work but I am new at torrents; did I miss a step?


I'm worried the download might have a virus. Some of the comments on the torrent said it did but most were positive. I don't have any antivirus software installed on my computer, so please help!!!! (a recommendation of a good free antivirus software would be helpful as well)

First of all, I'd like to inform you that many torrent contain illegal content.
Downloading and using the contents is against the law.


Is this game an old game, like a DOS game?
if so, you can download DosBox to run it.

If you are worried about a virus, you could try scanning with anti-virus software. (you should already have this on your computer)
I personally recommend Avast!, which you can download here: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

But I'm sure others will have something maybe even better.

Fairadir, the antivirus should be covered by a malware removal specialist. Other than that, the rest is fine.

The way torrenting works is, you download a torrent file. The torrent file tells the torrent program where to look for the file you want. The more seeders there are, the faster the download. If you see a file that doesn't have a lot of seeders, or it has bad comments don't download it as it probably contains a virus. (Don't download any torrents as they most likely contain illegal software)
