New computer, start up programs

Hi

I have been trying all day to sort out the start up programs that run automatically when the computer starts up
There are alot more, but i did not know how to fit them all in.

Its either user choices or not needed,  but i know not to uncheck any anti virus programs, or programs that i am not sure of, but if you can check this over for me for now to see if i have not made a mistake anywhere, and then i can post the rest of it

Hello broni,  its a new laptop, i have already unchecked quite a few in msconfig, and to the best of my knowledge, there either user choices or not needed.

But if you want i can enable them all again and post back, which i think would be a better option
Anyway here's what running at startup at the moment, which is not that much really

It looks pretty good.
The only thing:
TOSCDSPD (toscdspd.exe) - Used to provide an acoustic silencer for the CD drive. If you are playing a music CD, or installing software, and the CD player vibrates noisily, due to a poorly balanced CD, you can invoke this program from the task bar and slow down the player. This results in less or no vibration and therefore less or no noise.
Up to you.

Thanks broni, i spent an hour or two working that one out this afternoon, i had downloaded "autoruns.exe" and disabled it.
getting the hang of this a bit now, as to what programs or processes actually do, rather than just leave them alone.


Yes McAfee  is on a 30 day trail, but i am going to uninstall it, and get the AVG for now.
You carn't just uninstall it can you, do you have to disable it first ?

Yes, get rid of McAfee. Very clever decission.

Forget AVG. The newest version has been having problems....

NOTE. During installation, Comodo will also allow you to install AV only, or firewall only, if you prefer to combine one Comodo product with some other product.

If you decide to install Avast, or Avira, make sure, Windows firewall is turned on, or use PC Tools Firewall Plus.
If you decide to install Comodo, make sure, Windows firewall is turned off.

IMPORTANT! Make sure, you use only ONE antivirus, and ONE firewall.

Great broni,  printed all that out, i will do that in a day or two.

When you say "use add\remove as normal"  do you mean click on the uninstall tab, and then go to the majorgeeks site for the removal tool.

Why i mentioned this, is i had McAfee a few years back, and when i clicked on uninstall , it woulden't do anything until i disabled it first

Start>Control Panel>Add\Remove (Programs & Features in Vista), then removal tool. Disable it first, if it won't go, but normally, it should.
