I'm having problems with my computer recognizing my new USB 2.0 pci card. Recognition is sporadic. The original USB1.0 has 2 ports on the front of the computer, with a wire bundle leading to a small socket on the motherboard. It was suggested, here, that I leave it in, the more ports the better. There seems to be some conflict going on.
After installing, I plugged an external hard drive in and I got the "This device could run faster" message. I rebooted and got no message. The transfer rate was very fast. I assumed all was well, but next morning, turned on the computer, plugged in the drive and got the message again! This has happened several times.
Would it be ok to pull this old USB socket out?
Won't this force the computer to recognize the new USB card?
Do I have to disable it somewhere else? I hope not. My ps2 port is fried. I only have a USB keyboard and don't know how to get into "Safe Mode". Is there a way to "reboot in safe mode" that I don't know about?
