This web site said you download a scanner that scan your computer to check the memory you have. I didn't know if this was safe to use to and if it will try to steal my personal info.

    No, don't do it.
The benefit is small, the risk is high.

      What Geek-9pm? Crucial's scan?

Crucial's scan is perfectly safe. It does exactly what it says it does, and provides you with suggestions and information on what RAM sticks your system can use.

Crucial Scan is a highly reputable site. Here is the WOT scorecard for Crucial.com.

Don't know why Geek issued a warning, not heard of anyone with problems caused by the scan.

It's perfectly safe! After all, Crucial makes their own line of memory sticks and would most likely want people to buy it instead of going to other brand like Kinston or Edge Tech or something else. So I wouldn't expect them to make their website cause issues for end user's pc's!
