Aborted bluetooth installation won't let go!
    « on: June 16, 2009, 11:10:09 PM »
Hello: I  use XP with Service pack 3. My computer doesn't have bluetooth and my son wants to install it (I don't, but that's another story...) Anyway, he tried to install a blue tooth program to connect his mobile to my comp; the program was on a CD. I doubt the CD was original.  At any rate: This is the problem. The program never went through, so I can't find it anywhere to get rid of it.
On the other hand, everytime I turn on the computer I get the "Install New Hardware Wizard" which wants to help me finish installing the bluetooth program (the CD isn't in there anymore).  And when I click cancel it just keeps popping back until I cancel it about four or five times. In the meantime, this slows the start up of the rest of the programs and keeps me from getting to my work.
How can I get rid of this annoying thing--the popup, not my son, of course...

Harry: I did look there.  Here's why that didn't work. 1) This is a hardware not a software installation, Add and Remove refers to software; The hardware is an external bluetooth gadget.  2) The installation was of this gadget, via CD, stalled.  So, the Hardware Wizard wants to see it through to completion.  It can't "get it" that the CD is out of the computer and that the installation has been aborted. So, every time I start the computer it insists, over and over, that I need to complete the installation.

       Does that help you help?

      Thanks

Programs /Accessories/ System Tools/ System Restore

pick a restore date before trouble started

Hi guys: Gotta say I'm confused.  ???  Can you please run that by me just one more time. Exactly what should I do next? Take it slow and make it clear. If I could understand this stuff I wouldn't be here, right?  :)  I do have CC cleaner. Should I use that or something else?
            Thanks

One question for you: when installing bluetooth, he more than likely had to actually put the bluetooth device into a USB port. Did he leave it in a port? Or possibly an internal device? either way, if it is still plugged in, every time you turn your computer on, it will say it has detected new hardware and try to install, until you remove the device.

No, it's not in the computer anymore.  It's sitting on  my desk and not plugged in. Sometimes I wonder if I could just get him to put the gadget back in, rev up the CD and then try to cancel the installation with the CD in the computer if we would get closer to solving this.

                  what do you think?

Just see if you can do a system restore to before he started trying to install this thing.
