Why is my home page blank?

I am running Vista Home Basic on an E Machine  32 bit.  Yesterday evening I logged on.  Everything seemed normal but when the home page came up it stayed blank.  The three bars at the top were normal but the rest of the page stayed blank.  I noticed that at the bottom was an area that would turn green when the page was called up.  This time it would go green about a quarter of the way and then go blank.  I tried to log on several times and gave up and shut down.  This morning everything is normal.  Does anyone have an idea why the home page would not come on?  Is this probably a one time occurance or is this something I should worry about?   Thanks    Bob 
PS when I try to use spell check I get a "Blank Page".  What is that?

    Bobh,

    Run a couple of scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, see if it picks any thing up.....

    I ran Malwarebyt and it said everything was OK.
    I ran SuperAntispyware and it found 11 adware tracking cookies and fixed them.   Do you think that fixed the problem?   Thanks for your time.  Bob
    PS  that apparently fixed the spell check.  It works now.

      Bobh,

      Run HijackThis...then paste the log in the the process  tool     

      http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,81761.0.html

      and see if anything turns up....then follow the directions and if there is a problem delete them as per instructions.

      DO NOT post any logs here.....

      Thanks for the reply.  Today I will try to follow your instructions.  I am very dumb about computers and there are a lot of terms used in Hi Jack I don't understand but I will make an effort to comply.  Thanks for your help.   Bob

      OK  I got as far as ctrl  + A but I can't figure how to get the log to "computer varuses and spyware".  I know it is supposed to go there but I checked and it is not there.  What do I need to do?  Thanks   Bob

      I have found the Computer viruses and spyware instruction page.  I should have read it before I did anything.  I will now try to follow those directions,  Thanks for your help getting me this far.   Bob
