Outlook 2000
« on: June 04, 2005, 02:23:43 PM »
I am using Microsoft Outlook 2000 on Win XP. For the past week or so, when I try to create a new message or open a new incoming message, it "hangs" for about 45 seconds until it opens. I have archived old items and emptied all deleted files, why would this be running slow?
I also have Outlook Express left on my puter from before and I do not have this problem in that program.
I went so far as to import all messages from Outlook 2000 into my Outlook Express, uninstall Microsoft Office 2000 (reboot) then re-install it. This apparently had no affect. In fact, I slightly changed the "registered to" name this time around (my company went from LLC to INC) When opening Outlook, it still showed the old registration. Did I do something wrong?   ???

i ran spysweeper & downloaded the security update for outlook and i still have the same problem.

just curious...if i had uninstalled Microsoft 2000 completely and then re-installed it, why would it revert back to my previous settings? after re-installing it, why would my previous emails pop up in outlook?

1) Verify that all email accounts and passwords are in sync and usuable.

2) Verify that the PST folders used to store your messages are not to fragmentend (defrag HD). Copy outlook.pst >outlook.new del outlook.pst and ren outlook.new to outlook.pst This is a quick defrag for that file only. It does not have to be called outlook.pst persay, but ends with *.PST extension.

3) Is your outlook searching for exchange servers?

4) Some virus scanners have outlook add-ins. Are they functional?

5) Some yahoo or google chat buddies install a lot of crap into outlook. remove these.
