Entertainment system sound issues
« on: August 17, 2009, 02:20:43 AM »
hello all, new to the site... HAW HAW...

anyway, I'm having a small issue with a Television/Entertainment center, and for the life of me cannot figure it out.

the problem is that with most shows- a voice in the background dictates what is happening. And it is extremely annoying, and I cannot find out how to shut it off.

This same symptom is not exhibited by any other television set in the house.

TV set: LG-42LG70
Receiver:DCT6200
Sound System: LG HE903PAW

Any ideas would be great :)

Not sure what you mean by a background voice dictating things...
Are you saying it's along with the existing audio signal ? ?

Any wireless devices in range of this setup ? ?

BTW...Welcome to Computer Hope !

well, I could be watching a show- and a voice-over will occasionally say what is happening- "A man is driving the car. he is wearing a dark suit and tie. the left window is rolled down"

I'm not 100% sure where the sound is coming from, it's coming from the same speakers as all the other sound, no doubt... I've eliminated the  TV, so it's either the reciever, or the sound system itself. I suspect the sound system, but I cannot seem to get into it's settings menu.

I don't know whether to respond to this or not......could be getting set up.....looks like there is Descriptive Narration enabled on your set....it would be part of your television settings menu....used by vision impaired viewers.... I think some cable companies offer this as well through the cable box....

Thanks Karnac, that might help a lot, since I had no clue what it's called.

Good one karnac...you may also want to contact the cable provider...
Or have them switch it to a sultry female voice... ;D

Welcome to the CH forums (although it appears someone else has been using your handle for some time now). Sounds to me like a "closed captioning" option is selected. truenorth

You should be able to disable descriptive video in the settings of your software.  It usually uses SAP, try setting it a different audio processor.

Contacting the cable company won't do a thing for you, they send those signals to everyone, it just usually has to be enabled.
