Does it give you any message along? Something like a blue screen appearing with a warning message and then immediate reboot, or something like a message saying "bad boot file - system 32"...something like that? In that case you may have corrupted the system files for windows. You need to either repair the boot file, or install a fresh copy of OS.

The way I used to go around it, is to insert my Windows XP disk and run the setup programme from it. From there I entered the "repair mode". Go here for more information. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm.

Repair mode lets you enter the Command Prompt and you can use a specific list of commands that the repair mode allows you and add a new boot definition. Before doing that, whenever I got that bad boot message, the only way around it was to install a fresh windows copy but this way you can simply add a new boot file and bypass the problem. Have a look at the website to get more info.

At what point does it reboot? When you tap F8 and get to the alternative boot screen, try "disable restart on error"

It would have to be a Microsoft XP CD and the version and installed Service Packs must match...
An OEM CD such as Compaq; Hp Acer etc. will NOT work.
