Follow these steps:

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type msconfig
4. Go to startup tab.
5. Select the service you wish to disable/enable.
-- By untagging/tagging the box in front of it.
6. Click Apply
7. Click ok

Follow the same steps to re-enable the service.

I advise you to keep terminating running processes until you have found a possible cause.

What Anti-virus and spyware scanner(s) are you using?

Always update your protection against viruses, it might have a vital update that finds the virus causing this problem...

i know this is an old case, but the problem still hasn't been resolved  :(
i have found out that my laptop will shutdown, but it takes about 5mins: it works fine but then stops loading on 'windows is shutting down' then after a couple of minutes it will then turn off, this wait indicates something is wrong...any1 got any ideas...
suggestions will be appreciated.

cheers,
