psu help please

i have a 24 pin molex psu for a pc the fiiting on the motherboard has a 20 pin molex connection, i understand that you can buy an adapter for this but i am curious can i just cut of the extra four wires and tape them up and fit the moded psu molex connector

would this work

You gotta cut more than the 4 wires, you gotta cut the connector, too.  A whole lot easier to get the adapter for $5.

Make sure you get the right one, there is 20 to 24 & 24 to 20.
