As a home user on my IBM PC is there any advantage in installing Microsoft Security Analyzer, the system being Windows XP?

Ummm - no, you don't need spyware  ;D

What you need is a good anti virus utility (as harry says) and a good anti Malware utility (such as either MalwareBytes or Super Antispyware). Combine that with smart computing and you'll be fine.
