    Help!

I did not know exactly what topic to put this under so I came here. I need help. I have and older Compaq laptop that is running on XP so today I tried to start it. it worked fine until the menu where it said the computer was shut off incorrectly chose your option so I pick start normally I think I shut it off normal last time but I am not sure anyway the Computers loading bar comes up with the XP symbol over it as usual and when it finishes instead of going to my screen where I go to put my password A blue thing flashes for less then a second and the computer restarts and it go's back to the not shut off normal screen and the process just repeats it self. I don't know if its hardware, software or anything I am in the dark. can someone please tell me what I have to do to fix this!

    Try booting to safe mode...
To do this tap F8 repeatedly after powering up but before you see the Win logo...
Once in safe mode go to Control Panel/System/ Advanced and uncheck "auto restart on errors"...
Now instead of restarting the BSOD will stay...
Post the entire message including the gibberish and we'll go from there....

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
          to your computer.

          UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
          these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory opyions such as caching or shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced  Startup Options, and then
          select Safe mode.
