There are a lot of reasons.  Why do you ask?

That sounds like a good reason to ask :)

Why don't you give me some information about your system and network.  We can take it from there.

what type of information do you need?

both dell computers, working off a Verizon Fios router. One is hardwired, one is wireless. If the internet is up on the wireless, and i reboot, it goes out again. When I repair it says ...cannot complete the procedure. Cannot assign IP address.

the wireless computer has a linksys adapter which is 'working properly'.

Both computers are connected to the router?

What OS are you running on the wireless computer?
What kind of router is it(make and model please)?

its an issue with the wireless computer (XP), because in the next room is another wireless computer (Win 7) which works fine.  These two are both on the same network.

anyway..all is fixed. i just redid the whole thing and put XP back on. everythign is fine, so it was a setting i couldnt figure out somewhere. thanks for the attempted help though...appreciate it.
