When I start up my computer it shows 1961:No operating system found. I thought I possibly had a hard drive problem, as this was the display message in the past. But I've since bought a new hard drive, and this is the same message I have displayed after I've installed windows xp on the new hard drive.

Where is this XP CD from and what exactly does it say on the cover ? ?

It's a dell system reload c.d.

Is it a Dell you are re-installing to ? ?

If not then there's the issue right there.

It is a dell computer. I loaded it the first time and it worked fine for one day. Came home the next and it was corrupt. So I tried reloading but wouldn't work. bought a new hard drive and tried reloading but now it goes through the whole process of loading, but when it restarts it just says system not found.

if not you can order the correct 1 from Dell...

The problem you have is the software. Personally I don't trust recovery CDs. What that message means means is, there is no Operating System on the Hard Disk. Therefore, the solution is for you to have a New OS installed.  How..??

please find an Original Windows CD and install your win XP. Dont use the dell Recovery CDs.  I dont trust them. They are helpful but too many problems in future. Remember dell is not very friendly when it comes to Drivers. Make sure you use the other CD for Drivers, otherwise it will make you spend some good number of hours finding drivers Online.
