What did I do this time???
    « on: April 15, 2010, 05:41:55 PM »
I have an HP with WinXP. I deleted some old programs I never used or have not used for years. On several forums I frequent, titles of new threads or threads with new posts are highligted in bold type. After I read them, the type is unbolded. Now, the thread titles stay in bold type. This is inconvenient but I worry about what else I did.

Does anyone know what program/software unbolds type on thread titles?

    Deleting IE Temporary files, cookies.

      Deleting IE Temporary files, cookies.

Thanks for your quick response but I don't follow. I routinely delete temporary files and it has never affected the unbolding of thread titles in the various forums I read. Before I removed these old programs, thread titles would automatically unbold after I read them.

Are you suggesting I delete temporary files now to restore the automatic unbolding capability?

There is no app that bolds/unbolds any Forum output...
What you are seeing is on the other end...not neccessarily yours.

Yes, the problem was resolved. I did have to delete cookies (I usually delete temporary files except cookies) and then log-in to the forum. Now everything works like it did before. I think this is what Computer Commando was telling me to do. Thanks CC!

Update: Nope, it did npt work. It was working last night after I dletee cookies and re logged-in, but this morning it is not unbolding after I read the thread. Something has changed and I don't know what.

As patio said, the problem is either on their end or with cookies. To prove it, delete ALL cookies again and try - I'll bet it works as expected. You can try deleting all cookies + the index.dat file this time - see if that helps. Also, what happens if you use a different browser?

Thanks Allan. How do I delete the index.dat file? Could this have something to do with my CCleaner settings?

Click the "check box" for index.dat under "Internet Explorer" in CCleaner.
