Dual boot two copies of Win XP of different languages
    « on: May 24, 2010, 07:37:10 PM »
I'm currently running Win XP (English) on C drive. How do I install another copy of Win XP (Chinese) with the boot option on startup?

Also, can I install both copies on the same drive?

    Thank you.

      Hi,
you can definitely install the two copies of windows xp; one with English language and one with Chinese language, however at the time of installation of second copy you need to change the root folder. Simply you can rename the folder name with something like C:\windows2.
Please try this and reply back.

Anther option is to install on a new partition. The boot.ini file presents a boot menu for the user to pick a system.
Additional information and help with the boot.ini file options.

        Thanks for the reply.

I've read that the system will recognize the second installation as default (primary) boot target. So, if I have one disk of 2 partitions (C: & D:), and I want the English version as main, I'll have to first install the Chinese version on D:, then install the English version on C: ?

...the opposite.  English on C first, Chinese on D second.

          Read article about Boot.ini file.

            Read article about Boot.ini file.

Never mind...feeling dyslexic today for some reason...:self-facepalm:

Typically, after installing an additional Windows OS, the boot.ini gets updated automatically with a choice between the most recent OS and any previous OSes with a 30 second timer (so Michael had it right the first time).

Same goes for Vista/7 and the BCD database.
