    ESXi 3.5 hangs during shutdown
    « on: September 22, 2010, 02:46:24 AM »
I'm running VMWare ESXi 3.5u4 on a ProLiant DL760 G2 and whenever I try to reboot it with "halt" or "reboot" from an ssh login it hangs during shutdown and the only way out is to force a power off.

However, when I tell it to shutdown or reboot from the VMWare Infrastructure Client it shuts down cleanly.

There's no point asking VMWare as using ssh on ESXi is unsupported, but I wondered if anyone here knows what I'm missing, as I guess there's a service I need to shutdown before the "halt"

BTW, the reason I don't want to use the GUI is because sometimes I want to shut it down remotely using an ssh client on my mobile phone.

PS: I put the post here as the ESX service console is based on a variant of linux.
