Why were you resetting your computer to factory settings?

Here is a way you can do a reset. But you will need to reinstall windows again. Have you tried to get the CD of this computer? From Gateway? they mite be able to give it to you for free.
Here's the way that you can format which will Del everything on your drive  that includes the OS.
Download windows aik from here and make a windows PE Boot disk http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=c7d4bc6d-15f3-4284-9123-679830d629f2&displaylang=en Instructions how to do this http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/winvistape2.htm

I contacted gateway and they told me that they don't have any recovery disk for a computer that old.The computer is only3 to 4 years old. They said to bring it to somebody to fix it.The problem is i don't want to format the drive.I don't understand why it keeps telling me i have to format the drive.I was hoping to get around this and put it back to factory settings. Can you tell me why it's telling me i have to format it and possible to get around it

last year I had the same problem with my hp.
I ran chkdsk and it found errors the OS was corrupted what I did was a repair install of windows vista.
But I used windows PE to back up all my data from the computer and programs good luck.

Gateway should supply them for a 3 to 4 year old machine....period.

Post the entire log. Not just a segment of it.

Can you tell me why it's telling me i have to format it and possible to get around it
Its because you have POSTED that you have no recovery disk available and that your recovery drive may have been corrupted. Assuming that you have a healthy hard-drive, a reformat will make your computer beat the slow-down. Back-up.

The computer seem to run a little bit slow but i just wanted to get rid of a lot of stuff on my computer.
You can always go to Add or remove programs. Just make sure to remove the right files.
