Lazy computer...
« on: September 17, 2005, 10:50:31 PM »
Here's what my computer is doing... maybe somebody can help me out.

I turn on my computer... in the middle of boot-up, the monitor shuts down and goes into permanent stand-by mod.

It does this at the load-up screen that has the Windows XP logo on the black background with the sliding blue progress indicator at the bottom of the screen.  Once this screen pops up, almost instantly the monitor shuts down.

I swapped out monitors, cables, and video cards... and to no avail.

When the computer is loading, the hard-drive light flickers.  However, once the monitor shuts down, the hard-drive light stays lit.

This would make me think that because of the hard-drive light staying lit once the monitor shuts down, it might be a problem with the hard-drive.  But, I am far from being an expert on computers.

HELP!!!  (and thank you)

Another note on this... It was working fine earlier today.  I turned the monitor off after working on it this morning.  I turned the monitor this evening, and it appeared to be in standby mode.  Moved the mouse, didn't turn on.  So I reboot the computer, and it's been doing this ever since.

I suppose you have tried pushing the monitor button after the computer has booted into it's 'dead state'?

Yes.  I hit the monitor button, and it totally turns off.  I push it again, and the monitor powers up, but in it's "walking dead" state. ???

        What are your hardware specifications?

        What has caused this?

Are you certain it is only the monitor and not the computer?
