Also, here's something I'd like you to try. Download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml). It does not have to be installed, just download and run. Look at each tab. Uncheck any startup items you don't absolutely need. Reboot. Try Skype. What happens?

Okay. Take a look at all the startup items you unchecked. At least one of them is either causing a conflict or eating too much memory. Choose the ones you absolutely need to start when the system first loads and re-check them. You can start the rest if and when you need them each session.
