I have set up a password protected account for myself, and also a guest account on windows.

How do I make it so that not of my files can been seen or accessed from the guest account please?

    Many thanks.

    Kop:

That depends on what operating system you are using and whether or not it was installed with the default file system.

Are you using Windows XP Professional?  Windows XP Home?  Windows 98?

    Let us know,

      Kop:

      First, disable simple file sharing:

      1. Click Start > Control Panel.
      2. Double-click the Folder Options applet.
      3. In Folder Options, click the View tab.
      4. Scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings options and remove the checkmark from Use Simple File Sharing.
      5. Click Apply and OK.
      6. Restart your computer.

When you arrive at your desktop:

      1. Right-click your My Documents folder and select the Security tab.
      2. Examine the list of Group or user names.
      3. Do NOT change the permissions for Administrators, or for your own user name, or for SYSTEM.
      4. Do NOT use any Deny permissions.
      5. Do remove the checkmark from the check boxes under Allow for the Guest account.
      6. You may leave the checkmark in the check box next to List Folder Contents for the Guest account.
      7. If the Guest account is not present, then any user who is logged on as a guest (but not as a user) will not be allowed to even view the contents of your My Documents folder.

If you want to test this out:

      1. In the My Documents Properties window, select the Security tab and click Add.
      2. In the Select Users or Groups dialog box, type Guest and click Check Names.
      3. Click OK.
      4. Guest will now be listed with the permissions to Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read.
      5. Remove the checkmark from the Read & Execute and Read check boxes.
      6. Select Apply and OK.
      7. Restart your computer and sign on as Guest.

Open My computer and double-click the documents folder for your normal user name.

Windows XP will allow you to view the folder contents.

Double click one of the document files.

Windows XP will not allow you to read the file.  You will
      receive an access denied message.

Log off as Guest and log on with your normal user name.  You will now be able to access your My Documents folder.

If you find yourself denied access with your normal user name, log on as Administrator and change the permissions for the folder to which you were denied access.

      Regards,
      Doc
