    INTERNET EXPLORER 9 BETA
    « on: September 14, 2010, 11:00:35 PM »
    Hello there

Are these "beta versions generally ok to download, and are you likely to have problems.
I am running a windows 7x64 machine and should be ok with this.

I have never really tryed out any of these "beta" versions yet and have always waited to see what problems did arise (if any).

Any advice or tips on trying out these beta versions of explorer.... 8)

so far, i have tried the ie9 beta released today. it is generally stable and you definitely do see webpages loading up faster, in comparison to ie8, especially on websites with a lot of graphics.

you can try it if you want. if you somehow want to uninstall it, you can do so. IE9 is listed under the  "View Installed Updates" section within the programs/features  panel for which you can uninstall programs in the control panel.

Yeah...BT yahoo's home page has a lot of graphics on it, or rather i have added a lot of other stuff to it, i could do with that loading up a bit faster.

I will give it a whirl 2x3i5x......and see how it goes    :)

Try Rockmelt, it is a new browser and will blow your mind. It's in limited circulation for now though, and you will need an invite, but it really redefines browsing.

IT'S A BETA. Uninstall it and go back to the previous version if there's a problem.

        Several things:

It's not a "new browser" judging from the screenshots I've found it's clearly based on either Chrome or Chromium, probably the latter. Both of those are good browsers but "Rockmelt" shouldn't be allowed to take full credit for what they essentially took from another browser.

Seems the big difference here is that they have bookmarks and links running down the two sides of the screen. Yep, that totally redefines browsing*, what with the facebook and social networking links everywhere.

Remove those, and you've just got chrome/chromium with a few UI changes. (Note how I say "changes" and not "improvements")

With regard to Beta software, when it comes to browsers, I personally don't see the point. the last FF beta I used was the beta of 3.0; sure, they changed the back/forward buttons and a few other things, but truthfully it wouldn't have mattered if I had kept with FF 2 and simply upgraded when it was released. Really, If I have a choice between one version marked "stable" and another marked "Beta" I'll go for the former every time... (unless the latter has a feature I really need). It's a different version. For some reason people seem to think that "Beta=Cool". It doesn't. It means it's generally untested and/or in earlier development.

I like the idea of having an Open Beta, but I'll let other people be the free guinea pigs. I'll just use the release version.

Why do I get the impression that Windows 8 will have its UI based around IE 9's?

        That doesn't even make sense.

Well, it is a form of sense, but it's not looking good...
