Windows 7: Blue screen when trying to run install from CDs
    « on: October 04, 2010, 01:07:25 PM »
we got a toshiba win 7 laptop to replace an hp laptop.   When trying to install programs from CD, we get a blue screen type of window with quite a few lines of error message.

    1. Multimedia/movie disc work fine
    2. Program discs with exe, installation on them seem to be the problem
    3. The CD will load the master menu, but blue error occurs after select "install..."
    4. Tried with hp printer install cd, and with new photoshop install cd
    5. hp cd works fine on mac os
    6. Completely exit from antivirus software first

    This is usually a no-brainer.

Is there a setting that we're neglecting?

    Thank you

    Allan

I've seen similar issue lately, where couple of multimedia startups were stepping on each other.
    Answer Allan's question first, though...

What is the blue screen error?

      The blue screen error reads:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to your computer.

      SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

If this is the first time you;ve seen this stop error restart your computer.  if this screen appears again, these steps:

Check to make sure no hardware or software is present...disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software..."

      It goes on and on.

She had this happen on a new toshiba model - returned it for another - it occurs again.  In the latter case assuring that no software has been installed after the purchase...i.e. clean except for the mfr pre-load software.

      Thank you.

      Download BlueScreenView (in Zip file)
      No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Thanks Broni.  :)  I read the product description and screen shots at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
We are just computer users and I couldn't tell what to do with the output of bluescreenview.

Something is wacky when this happens on two computers - one completely off the shelf before trying the install.  The install disks are good though because they work on an old hp and for the printer disk, the macintosh components install onto the OS X machine.
         ???

I posted detailed instruction, what to do.
I need that log and I can take a look and try to find the issue.

I have this same problem on a Toshiba laptop.  I have gone to computer, tools, properties, and checked the drive for errors and still get the blue screen.  This has happened now with 2 different discs.  The 2nd disc is fine because my son-in-law loaded it on a computer at his house.  The message I get after windows recovers is:

            Problem signature:
              Problem Event Name:   BlueScreen
              OS Version:   6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
              Locale ID:   1033

            Additional information about the problem:
              BCCode:   3b
              BCP1:   00000000C0000005

              BCP3:   FFFFF8800755F5E0
              BCP4:   0000000000000000
              OS Version:   6_1_7600
              Service Pack:   0_0
              Product:   768_1

Files that help describe the problem:

I am like the other person that previously posted in that I am just a user not an operator.  Can you help me or do I need to take this computer back to Best Buy.  It is only about 6 months old.

            Thank you.

I would be interested to know how anybody can install Windows 7 "from CDs" (plural) since Windows 7 install packages only come on a single DVD.

You aren't missing anything - I had thought that this thread was about "installing Windows 7 from CDs", which it is not.
