black screen when boots up
« on: February 18, 2011, 10:50:12 PM »
I have a Dell inspiron 1520 , there is some issue while it boots up . when it boots up , I saw dell logo while booting up , however after the logo it shows black screen , and if we run it into safe mode , it gives all the safe mode options , when I load anything in safe mode , again black screen

I have checked the rams , taken out and reinserted it , same issue

I think I need to format the computer, will this be good ?

You may need to hook an external monitor to check the problem. Depending on the availability of RAM module on your computer, you could used just one while booting to test the issue.

That's similar to a problem I acquired when installing IE8. The problem went away when I uninstalled IE8. (2004 XP)

    Hmm.......

You may be right. But don't format the whole drive.
Try to install XP in another drive [instead of the default C:, try D: or E:]
But I must warn you - ALL the data stored in the drive you install the new patch of XP will be lost.
