Multiple Monitor Setup Help
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:31:58 PM »
Sorry for the stupid question but what hardware is necessary? I currently own 2 Samsung monitors (Samsung BX2031 20" LED LCD Monitor - 1600x900, 16:9, 1000:1, 5ms, VGA, DVI, Tilt) and would like to run both off of my laptop. There's obviously only one space on my Mac to plug in to the monitor, so I assume some sort of splitter, cable, conversion box, etc is necessary to run multiple monitors from my laptop. Thanks

A splitter seems the only way possible but that will, of course, show the same display on both external monitors.  Is that what you wanted?

You can get a little adapter that connects to your USB port and provides an additional VGA or DVI port.  Just do a search for "USB to DVI adapter" or "USB to VGA adapter"  There seem to be quite a lot of them on Ebay.

They are pretty easy to find but you will need to ensure that the one you find is mac compatible.
