replacement CMOS battery for laptop choice

I'd like to replace the CMOS/RTC battery in my Compaq Presario F572US notebook PC.  I'm having some difficulty finding sources that list my specific model, which is sometimes generally referred to as Presario F500.  I found this battery on ebay which looks identical to mine but the ebay listing only mentions a few models, not including mine.  But, since many of these laptop batteries simply contain the common CR2032 battery, I'm thinking this should work in my computer.  Any comments appreciated.

The problem is...they don't.  I've seen a few newer Dell laptops that use the CR2032, accessed through a door in the bottom just like RAM.  The one you show in the link has a connector.  It appears to be shrink-tubing around a coin cell.  You'll have to open your notebook to see what's actually there.  If that's all it is, you can make one from a CR-2032 socket & a battery that you know is good.  The problem with these aftermarket batteries, is you have no way of knowing if the battery is good or not.  I bought a bunch of CR-2032's, tested them on my ZTS battery tester & every one of them had less than 10% capacity, even though the voltage was good on all.

You'll have to open your notebook to see what's actually there.

I have.  That's why I said the picture in the ebay listing looks like my battery.

If that's all it is, you can make one from a CR-2032 socket & a battery that you know is good.

How?  Where can I get a CR-2032 socket?  The battery is held in place with 2-sided tape.  Would I be able to use tape with the socket you're talking about? And then, how do I get it connected to the wiring with the little connector?

If you have a Batteries Plus near you I would give them a call.  Since you are having a problem finding the battery I would be surprised if they have one in stock, but since they specialize in batteries of all kinds they might have the resources to be able to find one.  You might need to speak with the manager.

I do have a Batteries Plus store in my area.  I may check with them on this.  I suspect their price may discourage me from replacing and I'll just go on resetting time as needed. 

If I always leave the main battery in when the computer is off, that prevents the loss of time. But, if I run the computer off the AC adapter (battery out) and then turn it off and leave it that way ovenight, it will lose time. 

So, this is not a huge problem.  It's just a minor annoyance that I'd fix if the solution were not too costly and the right battery could be found without spending a lot of time searching.

3.  Tape the whole thing up so it won't short, then stick it in place.
4.  Cut the wire & connector off the old one.  Solder the wires to the new one.  +(Red) is the top, -(Blk) is the bottom

You may also want to hit your local PC repair shop...i got a dead MBoard last time i needed to jury ric a machine and de-soldered the CR 2032 socket off the board.

Do you mean you had to de-solder the original battery to remove it?  Fortunately, the battery casing is simply held in place by 2-sided tape on my laptop.  If removing the original battery mounting hardware involved de-soldering, I'd be afraid to attempt it.

No i de-spldered the CMOS battery holder...and used it in a laptop....easier than tracking down obscure laptop batteries.
