    Partition Problem Unable to Shrink
    « on: October 16, 2011, 09:25:47 PM »
    Hello All
I am trying to create a 50GB partition on my HD.
However when using Windows 7 Disk Management its
    telling me the following:
    *****************************************
    Total size before shrink (MB)----------------476938
Size of available shrink space (MB)----------9594
Enter the amount of space to shrink (MB)----9594
    Total size after shrink (MB)-----------------467377
    *****************************************
When I try to change the amount I want to change the
amount in the enter line and hit enter nothing happens
The only amount that works is 9594.
Could some one help me with this problem.

    Thanks
    Ralph :)

You can use other partition tools.
From my personal experience, partition tools may fail if there is a significant issue with the disk. Either an unusual layout of the files system, or a defect on the disk itself. I don't really know. I have come very close to losing all my data. I now make sure I and prepared to restore all if I wish to change my partitions.

One that works well almost always is:
    EASEUS partition manager
    http://www.easeus.com/

Another way is to just get a new drive. Create new partitions on the drive and move your stuff onto nit. Now you also have a backup. This is the conservative way.
