My Control key is hijacked!
« on: September 06, 2005, 03:12:53 PM »
I accidently landed on some scum spam site and now every
time I use my control key to access a link on a webpage this other site pops up with their stupid directory.

Then I have to hit the back button on top of the pop up to
access the web page I originally wanted to see.

I can not figure out how to get this off my computer or off
my control key feature.

Can anyone give me some advice on this annoyance?

Thanks,

Peter

What website is this? Use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. I can visit any website (with few additional security features) and never obtain any spyware or accept more data than I need. And yet I can get everything done what IE can?

Virus scanners
AVG Free
-- Anti virus scanner
Trend Micro Housecall
-- Online anti virus scanner.

Anti spy/malware
Microsoft Antispyware
-- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only.
Spybot Search & Destroy
-- Anti spyware scanner
Adaware SE Personal
-- Anti spyware scanner

Firewalls
Use both a hardware and software firewall.
Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems

ZoneAlarm Free
-- Free firewall - more user friendly
Sygate Personal
-- Free firewall - more configuration options

Removal tools
The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above.
They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind

HijackThis
-- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested!
McAfee Stinger
-- Virus removal tool. No substitute for a fully functional virus scanner!
CWshredder
-- CoolWebSearch removal tool. Widely known and persistant Hijacker.

It was at www.sidekicksaleman.com

I have Norton and spysweeper on my computer and swept
the computer and it's still there.

I would still like to know if anyone has a solution as to
how to get rid of it beside using firefox.

Thanks for the post.  What is malware?

Still download the tools in my list. All programs are not the same.

Let me know if any of these tools are able to find the culprit.

Scan in safe mode.
