Recommendation for computer check over

I have Dell Inspiron 530, running windows Vista. I use ie and firefox browsers. Since going on facebook, I feel my computer needs to be checked over and I don't know who to trust to do this Geek Squad, local computer store or someone else??

Browsers sometimes don't work or lock up especially in facebook.

I use ie browser or firefox browsers as I said in my original question. I think  there are many things running on my computer that don't need to be running which slows it down. I have cable internet connection. When computer was new 2 yrs old, it was much quicker.
