How to change default install location?
« on: August 17, 2012, 05:45:34 AM »
Split my hdd into 2 partitions, one for OS another for programs.

But when I install stuff I have to manually say D:/ drive but I want that as default, how do I make it so?
I got all my music, documents etc set on other partition but not programs...

This is a good idea incase there's a software problem and ya need to reinstall windows btw, saves your stuff

Depending on how the individual installers are written, you may still have to changes some manually. But here's how you can change the default path in the registry. Be sure to first backup the registry before making changes:

1) Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
2) On the right side look for: ProgramFilesDir
3) Change the value for the default path from c:\Program Files to whatever you like
4) Reboot
