Problem with Windows

When i start windows xp everything works fine but after i login on my username, a pop saying missing windows/system32/guard pops up, and everything stops there.neither the start bar or anything on my desktop comes up, and the computer runs extremely slow. anyone know why this is and maybe how to fix it?
