Can no longer access my external hardrive
    « on: May 31, 2013, 05:33:47 PM »
Problem. I have read the FAQ forum but cannot solve the problem.
I have an Iomega 1.3 TB external hardrive which is full of important files . All was working well until I ran CCleaner and then ran analyse, folled by Cleaner. After that the drive was only listed in My computer as Local Drive J. But could not be accessed.
I rebooted the PC but to no avail. I also have a small palmtop computer but it cannot see it either.
I have run disk management and the drive is recognised as letter J but not by its name Iomega. Its status is "Healthy"
In My computer ifyou try to  access it. The hour glass comes on and the machine seems to jam up.
In disk managment the drive is listed as having 100% free. I am praying it hasnt somehow been wiped clean.
I would be greatful for any help.
    Many thanks,
    TonyP

My computer is running windows XP professional SP3, intel pentium D cpu 2.8GHz, 1.0 GB RAM, RADEON X600 series
Also running Malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy

Sounds like you interrupted the clean process and the file table is corrupt...
Hook it back up to the desktop PC and this time be patient.

I am sorry but this hasnt helped.
The drive is still assigned as a Local drive J in both "My computer"  and Disk Management.
The PC has asked to format the disk. I do not want to erase the vast amount of useful material on it.
Is there anything else I can try?

      Hi
Try the drive connected and run some recovery software on it like EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard it's not free but the evaluation copy  will show if the files are still there.
Remember do not write anything to the drive you are recovering.  :)
