booting problems
« on: October 16, 2005, 10:43:22 PM »
Hello all.  I am looking for some help with my computer.  Micron Electronics Go Book2 laptop.  Intel Pentium II.  96 MB Ram.   I have had it now for almost 6 years.  Last year I replaced the hard drive with a 30 GB Hard drive.  I am running on Window 98.

When I start my computer it will simply start the fan blowing and nothing else happens.  When I try again and again eventually I get other things to happen (Go Book symbol appears, sometime Windows logo comes on).  Sometimes the computer freezes before everything is fully booted.  So I turn it off and on again.  Eventually I can get it so the computer is booted up fully.  At this point it seems to function well.

I am wondering if it could be my CMOS battery but my clock is fine.  COuld this be my problem.  If so how do I replace this.

ANy other suggestions on what I should do to fix this problem would be much appreciatied. :)

One other thing is that my computer always freezes when I disconnect from being on line (via dial up connection).  How can I stop this from happening?

Thanks again for the help!!!

If clock time is fine, CMOS battery is still good.

Since it appears to have problems POSTing (Power On Self Test), it could be anything.  Because it's a notebook, it's not easy to find.  Could be the modem, if it was a desktop, I would try removing it.

Could be that your windows 98 is corrupt. Try reinstalling windows.
