    TRACKING
    « on: March 13, 2014, 04:15:27 PM »
A company by the name of Social Sentry sells subscription services to employers to track their employees social network postings.  It claims it can track them even if the employee uses an alias and regardless of where or how the employee logs on to these sites.
    So my questions are:
    1. How is this possible?  If the loggings occur at another computer,  it can't be done with cookies.
    2. How can you circumvent the tracking features?

It is not possible- or I certainly don't see how it could be. They are making grandiose claims. At first I thought maybe you or somebody else had misrepresented them as making these impossible claims- but, nope, it's right on their site.

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

That is from their Facebook page. Is was posted in 2012.
The company Sentry Social is in  Bangkok, Thailand.
    Here is a claim:

Mar 24, 2010 · Social Sentry gives employers the ability to track their employees' online activity, provides granular real-time tracking and allows employers to "monitor ...

Doing any research on this goes  nowhere. If it was good, people would be raving about it. The lack of up to day  information would suggest the company is not active.

Anyway, tracking your employees requires use of a server to control access to the internet. Or a very special dedicated  firewall.

PC World did an article on the idea awhile back.

Do you know what your employees are doing on the Web? At a minimum, they're probably goofing off watching YouTube videos. At worst, they could be steering your company toward financial ruin.
He goes on to explain what big companies do. As for small business he  then says...

The most secure way to monitor PC use is to deploy a system that consists of a host, server, or appliance together with client-installed software. Unless you have a dedicated IT staff or the budget to bring someone in on a regular basis to check on things, a cloud-based service--such as Symantec.cloud or Trend Micro ...
No commendation nor  mention is made of offshore companies.   8)

Assume the company in Bangkok is out of business.
    Or was never real.
