until saturday, my dell keyboard was working alright, i went to where all the devices are on the computer
there is a keyboard on there but it has some kind of yellow symbol on it

further investigating, and here is what i found

there is a problem with the driver for hid keyboard device. reinstalling the driver might help.
i tried three keyboards on there, and i tried all the ports

i tried the keyboard in another computer and it worked

You have done the basic things.
Every time you turn off  the computer and turn it back on, Windows swill again look for the keyboard. So keep trying different ports, each time turn off and on the computer.
New keyboards are not expensive. You can get a generic USB keyboard for $25 or less from mail order firms. Even at a local Walmart some are prices at $12. So rather that spend more time, just get a new one.
