Startup Problem
« on: December 24, 2005, 02:14:17 PM »
hey,

i have a problem on my computer. I got a computer from a friend and it is an eMachines e-tower 600ix has a burner and a Cd-Rom drive, 15Gb Hard drive. When I turn it on  I get a error message that says,

Display Adapter not configured properly

The screen is set at 600X800 60Hz and 16Colors.
I do the wizard to find it and it finds and Advanced Configuration and Power interface (ACPI) BIOS. Then  there is a  message that  says that it is installed but has a problem. I viewed the driver details and it says that acpi.sys is not installed and ntkern.vxd is not available. When I click on My Computer both Cd drives are not shown.  I checked the BIOS and CD drives appear and ACPI is enabled. I really dont know what to do and I dont have the Windows 98 Cd so im kinda stuck what should I do? ??? ???

Help is highly appreciated Thank You.

I would suggest un-enabling ACPI in BIOS/setup. That should take care of that error message. This can happen when it is set one way when Win98 is loaded and then the setting changed later.

Remove both CD Drives in Windosw Device Manager and reboot the machine. That should load the correct drivers.

The video display is an entirely differeent matter. You need to identify the correct video adapter in that machine and install the appropriate driver. What model is that? You can also download Everset Home Edition from www.majorgeeks.com and it will tell you what display adapter is in there.

    Required files for ACPI (BIOS)

    ACPI.SYS
    NTKERN.VXD
    POWERD.VXD
    POWER.DRV
    PCI.VXD

There might be back up copies of them in c:\windows\vcm. If they are present, copy them to the c:\windows\system folder. You can also use start/run/SFC and let it check for missing or corrupted files. You will need a windows CD to restore the originals..
