Problem viewing online images
« on: February 11, 2006, 10:59:37 PM »
When going online with Internet Explorer, images are distorted.

However, if I use a different browser (like Mozilla Firefox, for example), the images are nice and clear.

How can I fix IE (or can I?)

In what way are they distorted?
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.

If you can send us a screenshot, that would be helpful  ;)  If you don't know how to do that already, go into IE and find one of these images, press the Print Screen key (usually above the number pad). Next click on Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> Paint. Click on Edit -> Paste. Next, click on File -> Save as. Enter any name you would like, and look just below the name, and make sure JPG or JPEG is selected. All you have to do now is come to the forum, and attach the file.

OK, this attachement shows what an image looks like using Internet Explorer.

...And here's the same image using Foxfire.

Is this a dial up connection with some sort of Internet Accelerator, by chance?

Wow, interesting question!

Yes, it is a dial up connection.

When I use IE, something called AT&T Worldnet Accelerator runs automatically (as far as I remember, I've never requested this and am not paying anything for it; it just kinda "showed up" one day.)

When I use Foxfire, I'll get a message as I close the browser that this AT&T Accelerator was not running.

Never thought of that before; hmmm....

(BTW, thank all of you for your help, I *really* appreciate it!)

That's how those accelerators "speed up" surfing. They only send degraded images, so the overall page loads quicker.  ;)

Try disabling this accelerator in order to use the browser of your choice. Funny how they do that  ;)

Well everyone, what I've long suspected is now official: I'm a moron.

As soon as the accelerator went bye-bye, the images became nice and clear.

Sorry for taking up our time on this; again, I really appreciate your help.
