ntldr is missing

when i try and start up windows i am getting this message

NTLDR IS MISSING

when i try to copy the following file from my windows xp boot disk:

copy d:\i386\ntldr c:

file  is not found

i need to copy this file to c: but cannot find it.

?????

    You are sure that your dvd-rom/cd-rom has the letter d: assigned to it (when you boot from it, I assume) ? Maybe it is c: or e:?

    yes because i copied the following file and it went through ok:

    copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:

      try:
      copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\

      Try expand instead of copy.
