I have the sand dial, next to the mouse cursor continually blinking. I did spy sweeper, but the problem continues. Any suggestions?

    Cruncher:

Are you still able to use the mouse, or does Windows fail to respond?

You might try starting the computer in Safe Mode (press F8 during startup) to see if you still get the hourglass in Safe Mode.

Try setting the pointer to it's defaults - Start>Settings>Control Panel>Mouse>Pointers>Scheme>None.
