unable to access secure websites
« on: May 10, 2006, 04:37:26 PM »
Hi,
On my wife's computer we are unable access any secure websites or any site that requires a password.

We have run spy sweeper, registry mechanic, ad-ware, spam subtract, spy subtract, spyware dr. and installed win patrol, zone alarm and possibly others.

We also have Norton anti-virius/firewall but it is expiried and we can't access anything on that program.

Obviously nothing has worked.

Would anyone have any ideas??? do we have to buy another computer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

LOL ..... Would you run out and buy a new car because the one you have has a flat tire ? ....... Of course you wouldn't .........you would fix the flat.

Ok ..... first off  , I would suggest removing the expired Norton product from your machine ....... ( this would include any referance to Norton in the registry and there will be a number of them )
Then I would stongly suggest D/L a free anti virus ...... like AVG  get it at ...... http://www.majorgeeks.com/download886.html

The other applications you mentioned do not provide any virus protecion ......... and the "possibly others" one is totally unknown to me.

Which operating system are you using ?
I would also be D/L and installing ....CCleaner ..... get it at ..... http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/   ...then set it up like this ....... http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1144186359

Once you have run the cleaner .........
If your O/S is Win XP , Turn off the system restore feature and
reboot into SAFE mode and run a full system scan with AVG ........
When that is complete and you have no viruses , Reboot back into Normal mode ......and open IE ........ click on tools /Internet option/security tab ....... and click on the default settings.......then click "apply" and then "ok"
Now try accessing one of your secure sites.........

Let us know how it goes .
