Error Loading Explorer.exe
« on: May 16, 2006, 07:26:58 AM »
Well, it's me again with my infamous WindowsME errors. This time it's: "Error Loading Explorer.exe You Must Reinstall Windows"

I searched this on Google and got a howto from the Microsoft site (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306599). I did everything they told me to do, and I still get the error.

Behind the error message is another that says that the required file MSVCRT.dll was not found.

This error began after the system restarted after uninstalling Flash.

Here's some more info on msvcrt.dll: msvcrt - msvcrt.dll - DLL Information.

Sounds to me like you may have to format your hard drive and reinstall Win ME to resolve this.

Err... well I also read it's possible to extract it from a WindowsME cd. But I dont have one so I was wondering is there another metheod to getting the file replaced. One that doesn't involve wiping my hard drive  :-/

If I take the drive from the other computer, put it into this one as a slave, then replace the .dll file, would it work then?

Or does making a hd a slave somehow erase or mess up the OS? Because I was told that's what I did when I made the drive a slave last time I had trouble with it. Or is that person just telling me bs?
