Windows 98 and setting it to print

For some reason on my husbands old computer with Windows 98 when trying to print something off of a site using firefox since thats what we use for a browser, it saves it and then opens it in paint where I cant see it or print it. How and where do I change that to open somewhere else so I can print things. It isnt the printer because I trouble shot that and it prints a test page fine.  :-?

Save what you want to print, right click on the icon for the saved item, and click "Print" or "Open With"
"Open With" will allow you to open the file with the program you specify.

You could also try to directly print from a website, in Firefox, click FILE, and PRINT.

The problem is with Windows 98 it doesnt give me the option to open with whatever I want like Windows XP does and whenever I go to file and print it takes me to save it and then back to just opening it up to paint.

What EXACTLY are you trying to print?  Where is it saved?  And how EXACTLY did it get there?

He works on radios and goes to sites to get instructions and the site he uses is:
http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/983/M0040983.htm , when u go there it has a little eye to open it and then u can get the directions as I can here on this computer with Windows XP but there u click on the eye and it downloads to the firefox downloads then when I open it it has a yellow caution from paint and says:
C:\Windows\TEMP\M0040983.pdf. Paint cannot read this file. This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported. I cant find how to get it to open in something else where it can be seen and then I can print it. When I click the eye on with XP it takes me to the direction page in firefox and I can print it with this computer, but his is stuck on paint opening it up  :-/

Open Acrobat Reader in the start menu, and find the location of the file.
The location of the file in this case would be:
C:\Windows\TEMP\M0040983.pdf
or where ever it was saved.

To change the "open with" option in W98, locate the file in question. Click to highlight the file name. Hold down the shift key and right click the file name. "Open with" will appear in the options. Select the program that you want to open the file. Make sure the check box for "always open with" (or similar) is checked. Click ok.

The problem I am having is when I do all that there isnt a open with choice like with XP it just goes to paint. I tried going to options on firefox and looking several places to see if I can change it but havent had any luck

In order to print .pdf files from Firefox, she will need Acrobat Reader installed as a plugin. Otherwise, when files are saved to disk, she can follow the above instructions and select Acrobat Reader to open the files in Windows. Either way should allow printing of .pdf files (apparently the files in question).

Thank u all. I got Acrobat Reader downloaded for him and that solved the whole problem but it was also great finding out how to get to "open with" on Windows 98
